Swisscom and Ericsson launch M2M partnership

Switzerland’s largest telecom operator Swisscom and telecom equipment maker Ericsson have launched a machine-to-machine (M2M) partnership.  Under the agreement, Swisscom will offer customers M2M services using Ericsson’s Device Connection Platform.


The first trials will start in February 2012, with the commercial introduction of services scheduled for the summer 2012, says Swisscom.  The partnership will span across Switzerland as well as abroad.

TomTom enters insurance market with new partnership

On Wednesday, TomTom, which makes vehicle-based personal navigation devices (PNDs), said it had teamed up with UK-based insurance firm Motaquote to offer its first new insurance product, called Fair Play, which gives safer drivers lower premiums.


"Our entry in the insurance market…puts us at the forefront of a move that could help to revolutionize the motor insurance industry," said Thomas Schmidt, managing director TomTom (Amsterdam, Netherlands) Business Solutions.

iRobot invests $6 Million in telemedicine company

iRobot Corp., a provider of robotic technology-based services, on Tuesday announced a $6 million investment and expanded partnership with InTouch Health, a provider of remote presence telemedicine services. The $6 million investment represents a minority position in the company.

The announcement expands upon the joint development and licensing agreement iRobot (Bedford, Mass., USA) announced in July 2011, which was established to explore opportunities for healthcare applications on iRobot platforms.
