The I-Gate 4000 from Dialogic Inc. (San Jose, CA USA) provides for voice- and data-stream optimization for 3G, 2G, and enterprise traffic, and is said to significantly improve the customer experience. The unit will be introduced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress In Barcelona.
IEEE (Piscataway, NJ USA) has announced that the final IEEE 1901 Broadband over Power Line (BPL) standard was finalized in December 2010 and is now available at its website. Sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society, this BPL standard is designed for use in a wide range of applications including smart energy, transportation and Local Area Networks (LANs) in both the home and the enterprise.
In a newly released market forecast report by Dell'Oro Group (Redwood City, CA, USA), mobile backhaul market revenues are expected to exceed $8 billion by 2015. The report tracks two market segments: Transport, which includes microwave transmission and optical transport equipment, and Routers and Switches, which includes cell site devices, carrier Ethernet switches, and service provider edge routers used for IP-based mobile backhaul.
Tekelec (Morrisville, NC, USA) is converging its suite of network intelligence and policy control solutions into a system known as RAN-aware policy management. The solution draws intelligence and technology from existing Tekelec offerings such as its proprietary Performance Intelligence Center (Version 7.0 launched in November 2010), the SDM suite (acquired from Blueslice Networks in May 2010) and the Camiant Policy Management PCRF (acquired in May 2010).
Boston-based Cloud Technology Partners announced its launch this morning. The cloud-focused systems integrator, started by Cambridge Technology partners founder Chris Greendale, has been active since last spring. In an interview last week, Greendale told Mass High Tech his company expects to have 40 people on staff by the end of February. Five of the company’s first 11 hires are Cambridge Technology Partners veterans, including Erik Sebesta, the company’s chief architect and technology officer.

Sierra Wireless (Richmond, British Columbia, Canada) today introduced two new broadband products in its AirPrime SL Series of wireless embedded modules: the AirPrime SL809x for HSPA+ networks, and the AirPrime SL501x for EV-DO Rev A networks. (MSCI), a Canadian satellite manufacturer, has announced an ambitious plan called "COMMStellation," a polar communications "constellation" comprised of 78 microsatellites that will orbit the Earth at 1,000 km, providing backhaul capacity while connecting remote regions to the Internet.
