AT&T, Axeda team up to offer comprehensive M2M platform

Carrier giant AT&T has settled on a preferred software solution for the management of embedded devices and development of M2M applications across a wide range of devices, in an effort to provide end-to-end solutions for M2M. An exclusive US reseller agreement was just announced at AT&T’s Developer Summit in Las Vegas that makes the company the only US carrier to offer the Axeda Platform from Axeda Corp (Foxboro, Mass., USA).

In 2010, Huawei had less than half the number of European LTE base-station deployments as Ericsson, but in 2011 Huawei was the top supplier of LTE base-station equipment, according to research firm NPD In-Stat.

1% of mobile subscribers now consume 50% of world bandwidth

A recent study documented the data usage of 1.1 million subscribers of a European mobile network over a 24-hour period and found that 1% of subscribers consumed 50% of the downlink data volume.  Arieso, an advisor of mobile operators in the United States, Europe and Africa, conducted the study.

Zhone provides FTTH, mobile backhaul to Saudi Arabia

Zhone Technologies, Inc, a provider of telecommunications networking equipment, announced on Wednesday that through a partnership with BTC Networks, Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), a mobile voice and data service provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is utilizing Zhone's MXK Optical Line Termination (OLT) for its nationwide Fiber network.

Report: 2.2 million patients are remotely monitored

According to new a report from analyst firm Berg Insight, around 2.2 million patients worldwide were using a home monitoring service with integrated connectivity at the end of 2011. The firm forecasts that the number of home monitoring systems with integrated communication capabilities will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18% between 2012 and 2016 reaching 4.9 million connections globally.

TomTom LIVE subscribers doubled in 2011

At the end of the year 1.5 million people around the globe were actively using TomTom’s LIVE Services, including TomTom HD Traffic, compared to 690,000 at the start of the year.

Currently, over 90% of TomTom’s (Amsterdam, Netherlands) automotive systems and 20% of its Portable Navigation Devices sold in Europe are equipped with LIVE Services.

Laird Technologies releases new M2M wireless gateway

Laird Technologies, Inc., a supplier of customized electronics and wireless products, last week announced the release of its new APG BT W400 wireless access point gateway. The new gateway is used for M2M wireless communications and for connecting Bluetooth enabled devices in a Personal Area Network to IP network via Ethernet or WLAN interface.

Orbcomm prepares to launch second AIS satellite

ORBCOMM Inc., a satellite data communications company focused on two-way Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, last week announced that the target launch date for its second satellite is January 10, 2012. LuxSpace Sarl, an affiliate of OHB System AG, confirmed that construction and testing of the VesselSat2 AIS satellite has been successfully completed.

The spacecraft has been shipped to the China Great Wall Industry Corporation’s Tiayuan Satellite Launch Center (TSLC) in the Ganso Province of the People’s Republic of China for its launch.
