Digi International and Wind River, on Tuesday announced a collaboration to deliver a new family of cloud-connected wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) services. On Monday, Sprint, partnered with Cisco, announced the availability of Sprint Complete Collaboration, a fully managed unified communications (UC) bundle for mid-sized and large businesses. This cloud service will allow companies to deploy UC over an all-IP network across the enterprise and to virtually anywhere, says Sprint.

Telstra deploys Infinera DTN service for subsea network in Asia Pacific

Infinera, a manufacturer of long-haul WDM optical transmission equipment, announced on Monday that Telstra International, a global supplier of managed network and hosting services, has deployed Infinera’s 40 gigabits per second (Gbps) DTN service for its optical subsea network in Asia. The deployment spans approximately 9,000 kilometers between Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.


Telstra International is a division of Telstra Corporation Limited (Melbourne, Australia), a telecommunications and media services company.

Mobey Forum adds first non-banking full member

Cellphone-to-WiFi roaming will be here in next year, says GSMA

Within a year cellphones will be able to use operators' WiFi hotspots without cumbersome logging-in procedures, giving consumers faster access to the Internet on the go, a new industry initiative promised on Tuesday.


The initiative from two industry groups - the GSMA and the Wireless Broadband Alliance - aims to provide technical and commercial solutions for WiFi roaming, which would also ease the traffic load on operators' already crowded networks.

U.S. mobile backhaul demand to grow more than nine times by 2016

Iberdrola to deploy an additional one million smart meters in Spain

Iberdrola, a Spanish utility company, has awarded seven companies contracts to supply one million meters with remote management capabilities, to advance its smart grid projects in Spain.


This award follows others made by the company in the last two years to roll out new distribution technology in the country. With this new award, accumulated investment reaches $395 million.

Gemalto issues additional 15 Million eHealth cards in Germany

Gemalto, a provider of digital security, will issue an additional 15 million second-generation (2G) eHealth cards to AOK in 2012. AOK (Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse), the health insurance fund, looks after around 25 million people, approximately one third of the population in Germany.
