Telit wins telematics contract with Hirschmann

M2M module maker Telit has won a contract to provide receivers to data communications specialist Hirschmann Solutions, a unit of Germany’s Hirschmann Car Communication.

The deal will see Telit’s (London, UK) receivers included in GPS antennas developed by Hirschmann (Neckartenzlingen, Germany) and used to support telematics applications in the transport and logistics sector.

The receiver Telit is supplying is a so-called “ultra-compact” module designed for applications in the commercial, industrial and consumer segments, including wearable and handheld devices.

“The competences of two leading manufacturers in the high-frequency and module development sector perfectly complement each other,” said Laurie Burns, head of the solutions business unit at Hirschmann Car Communication, in discussing the tie-up with Telit. “The reception data is impressive.”

Telit claims its products are compatible with GPS technology as well as GLONASS, the Russian counterpart, and “fully aligned” with the upcoming launch of Europe’s Galileo constellation.

“We look forward to further expanding the relationship with Hirschmann Solutions as we explore these new boundaries of positioning technology,” said Dominikus Hierl, Telit’s chief marketing officer.
