Telit acquires ILST to bolster managed-services offering

Telit has acquired cloud-services company ILS Technology (ILST) in a move that should further strengthen its position as a provider of managed M2M services and lessen its reliance on hardware sales.

The financial terms of the takeover were not disclosed, but Telit (London, UK) said that management, engineering and support staff from ILST (Boca Raton, FL, USA) would be integrated with its own m2mAir services unit, which the company set up last year.

According to Telit, the acquisition of ILST will expand the reach of m2mAir into the realm of internet services, where it sees a demand for more integrated solutions.

“The ILST acquisition provides Telit with access to additional value added services and customers, providing Telit with an even broader footprint in the M2M value chain,” said Oozi Cats, Telit’s chief executive.

“It opens up new opportunities to expand our service offerings to small and medium-sized M2M customers worldwide, widening our market advantage,” added Cats. “We see tremendous synergies between our hardware and connectivity offerings and the portfolio from ILST, and welcome the opportunity that this acquisition provides us to further strengthen and solidify our presence in the M2M market.”

Telit plans to maintain ILST’s secureWISE and deviceWISE product lines as separately managed businesses, but says it will develop deviceWISE into a “highly adept” SaaS-based application enablement platform, drawing on its own expertise.

secureWISE delivers secure data exchange for large data volumes and is aimed at the automotive and industrial automation sectors, as well as data centers and semiconductor fabrication facilities, while deviceWISE addresses the needs of M2M adopters concerned with security, scalability and integration with modern IT infrastructures.

“We are excited about the prospect of working with the Telit team to continue providing premier services to our customers and to expand our sales and customer base,” said Fred Yentz, ILST’s chief executive. “We look forward to continued growth and globalization of ILST under Telit leadership.”
