Telenor Connexion touts “world’s smallest GPS tracker”

Telenor Connexion has announced a partnership with the maker of what it calls “the world’s smallest and smartest GPS tracker”.

Wonder Technology Solutions (WTS), a Swedish start-up, has developed a smart device called the Trax designed specifically, it seems, for parents and pet owners.

Given its size and weight, the Trax can easily be attached to a child’s clothing so that concerned parents can monitor the whereabouts of loved ones at all times.

Pet owners could similarly fit the device to the collar of a dog or cat.

According to Telenor’s press release, the Trax comes with a built-in sensor that measures speed and direction and allows users to set boundaries, or “geo-fences”, on a map.

Customers are sent notifications when those boundaries are crossed or when the device is either dropped or exceeds a certain speed.

“Parents and pet owners require a reliable product that is small in size, lightweight and doesn’t get in the way of play,” said Fredrik Danelius, the chief exective of WTS. Trax is designed with high-quality components and smart technology that meet all the above requirements.”

Partnership with Telenor Connexion (Stockholm, Sweden) will allow WTS to take advantage of Telenor’s integrated SIM card – which the operator claims is the smallest on the market – and its multi-operator agreements.

“After evaluating several vendors, Telenor Connexion was the obvious choice,” said Danelius. “No other company could provide us with the same level of extensive experience, flexible business models and professional support through the whole design and development phase.”

Telenor describes Trax as “the most technologically advanced personal GPS locator in the market” but says WTS has also managed to develop an application that is easy to use.

“We are proud to be part of this smart and reliable tracking solution and look forward to supporting the global rollout,” said Thomas Strandin, the head of account management at Telenor Connexion.

Trax is to be launched in September this year for a flat fee of €185 ($247), says Telenor, with two years of data and roaming across the US, Canada, Australia and EU countries included in the price.
