This past April, the M2M service platform of Telenor Connexion (Fornebu, Norway) was acquired by network equipment provider Ericsson (Stockholm, Sweden), a long-time supplier to the telecom industry. In an exclusive interview, Telecom Connexion clarified the nature of the deal and its plans for moving forward in the M2M sector.

The essence of the deal is that Ericsson will provide Telenor’s M2M platform, including its billing systems and service portal, to other telecom service providers. Telenor will continue to promote and develop the same platform- independent of Ericsson – in sectors other than telecom, including automotive, energy and utilities, healthcare and logistics.

The development of Telenor Connexion’s platform is already underway and includes its own B2B portal for M2M device management, which concentrates on connectivity, data processing and service enabler solutions.

Another major development came Monday, when it was announced that Telenor Connexion would be expanding its executive team into North America, not only to gain business, but to cultivate international relationships. Telenor Connexion is wholly owned by Telenor Group, one of the world’s major mobile operators with 203 million mobile subscribers around the world, including Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Asia.
