Telefonica Digital has announced a partnership with fleet-monitoring specialist Sascar aimed at developing fleet-management services for light vehicles in Brazil.

The companies claim their services will offer cost savings and greater efficiency to an addressable market of about 5 million light vehicles in the South American country.

The partnership has already won the approval of the Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Economica, Brazil’s competition authority.

The M2M arm of Spanish telecoms incumbent Telefonica (Madrid, Spain), Telefonica Digital says the main targets of the partnership will be fleets of sales teams, technical engineers, service providers of utilities and delivery fleets.

Services are to be offered under the Vivo brand used by Telefonica in Brazil.

That will aid efforts to upsell the fleet-management services to a business customer base of about 300,000 customers.

“We are sure that, with Sascar [Sao Jose dos Pinhais, Brazil], we will offer the best fleet management service for light vehicles”, said Roberto Della Piazza, executive director of digital services at Telefonica Vivo.

Piazza says the partnership builds on similar arrangements in other countries as part of Telefonica’s global M2M strategy.

“Besides the market opportunity we have, we are proud to be chosen by Vivo after a long contest with other players,” said Marcio Tabatchnik Trigueiro, Sascar’s president. “We believe this is a recognition of the heavy investments, of more than BRL20 million [$10.1 million], we recently made in technology and innovation. This shows we are on the right path.”
