Telefonica and Orange sign telepresence agreement

Telefónica (Madrid, Spain) and Orange (Paris, France), providers of communication services, have signed an agreement on Tuesday to allow customers in their respective networks to conduct telepresence sessions.

This agreement comes right after another telepresence deal made by Orange, having made an agreement with Tata Communications in April.

According to Orange, the agreement with Telefónica aims to create an open environment that allows customers of various telepresence providers open access to connect across a much broader business ecosystem.

Orange Business Services and Telefónica International Wholesale Services have teamed with Polycom (Pleasanton, Calif.), a manufacturer of telepresence and voice communications, and other service providers from around the world to launch the new Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC). The OVCC is a visual communication exchange based on open standards and aimed to link service provider networks through video connectivity and telepresence.
