Tele2, Wipro flag new M2M partnership

Indian IT giant Wipro says it is teaming up with Swedish telecoms operator Tele2 on the development of new products and services for the M2M market.

The companies say their partnership is aimed at developing solutions that will reduce costs and open up new revenue streams for M2M customers.

The deal is the latest in a series of M2M moves by Tele2 (Stockholm, Sweden), which operates telecoms networks in several European markets.

In November, the company announced plans to launch a global M2M business, saying it aimed to become a competitive player in the global market.

That was followed earlier this month by news that Tele2 had signed up to use an M2M platform developed by Jasper Wireless (Mountain View, CA, USA), which already counts a number of leading international operators among its customers.

“A partnership is the right way of going to market in the M2M world,” said Rami Avidan, the head of Tele2 M2M Global Solutions. “At Tele2, we are actively focusing on our partnership strategy and by partnering with Wipro [Bangalore, India] we can now jointly offer an end-to-end solution that will help our customers realize business opportunities in a simple, flexible and secure way.”

Wipro is also trying to establish itself as an important player in the M2M industry.

In May, it formed a partnership with US telecoms giant AT&T (Dallas, TX, USA) aimed at developing M2M services for a range of major industries.

Under that collaboration, services are to be developed based on an M2M application platform from Axeda, with which AT&T has had a partnership since January 2012.

“Wipro’s partnership with Tele2 is driven by the growing demand and interest in M2M solutions across verticals from customers throughout Europe,” said Alan Atkins, the vice president and global head of M2M at Wipro. “Our relationship with Tele2 will enable both companies to provide customers with a compelling, end-to-end M2M service and business solution.”
