The Swiss telecoms incumbent has launched what it calls a “smart secure living offering” under the brand of “Quing Home”, allowing customers to control security, automation and energy management through a managed tablet or smartphone application.

Technicolor’s MediaTouch HomePilot tablet is now being positioned by the companies as “the ideal home automation hub for the connected home”.

Using an Android operating system, the tablet incorporates voice and video communication features, integrated Ethernet and WiFi connectivity, GSM backup and Zigbee technology support.

With an open architecture, it could also be used to support additional smart-home devices that Swisscom (Worblaufen, Switzerland) may wish to deploy.

“We are very proud to have partnered with Swisscom on this very innovative smart home solution,” said Francois Rossiensky, the senior vice president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Technicolor (Issy les Moulineaux, France). “This is a key milestone in our smart home strategy, as Quing Home illustrates our vision of an integrated ecosystem to provide enriched and seamless user experience within the home.”

Swisscom says the use of Technicolor technology has allowed it to improve the service it offers to its customers.

In future, it hopes to be able to expand the service based on Technicolor’s platform, offering additional features to its customers.
