Sierra Wireless launches new M2M gateway

Module maker Sierra Wireless has launched a new 3G wireless gateway designed to support M2M services across a range of industrial, enterprise and transportation applications.

The AirLink LS300 is billed as a successor to the company’s AirLink Raven gateways, which Sierra Wireless (Richmond, Canada) says have been successfully used in a wide variety of M2M deployments.

These range from monitoring soil conditions in vineyards or vibrations in historic buildings to delivering messages to roadside traffic signs or photos from red light cameras, according to Sierra Wireless.

Claiming to have sold more than a million AirLink devices, Sierra Wireless says the new LS300 “provides all the benefits customers have come to rely on in the AirLink product line, including best-in-class network connectivity [and] rugged military-spec design”.

“Our customers depend on AirLink gateways to quickly and reliably get their M2M deployments up and running,” said Emmanuel Walckenaer, the senior vice president of solutions and services at Sierra Wireless. “The AirLink LS300 advances the product line even further, with feature improvements that make it flexible to use, as well as management capabilities that make them remarkably easy to configure and deploy.”

Sierra Wireless has designed the new gateway to be about the size of a compact camera so that it can be easily installed in enclosed spaces, like vehicles and vending machines.

It also comes with configurable options that allow customers to set up their own security, networking and routing parameters, as well as activate GPS location tracking.

Sierra Wireless is including a free 30-day trial of its AirVantage Management Service with the sale of every AirLink LS300 gateway.

AirVantage lets customers update firmware with ease, monitor the health of their AirLink gateways and set up alerts for mission-critical applications.

“This makes deployments of AirLink LS300 gateways quick, efficient and scalable,” claims the company.
