SkyWave (Ottawa, Canada), an Inmarsat-based satellite solution provider, is exhibiting at CeBIT 2011 this week and showcasing their dual-mode SureLinx 8100 M2M module. The system reduces operational costs by intelligently delivering data messages using the lowest-cost message routing: cellular frequencies when in range of terrestrial networks, and satellite service in other areas.
Long-time rivals Deutsche Telekom (Bonn, Germany) and France Telecom-Orange (Paris) announced on February 11 that they will cooperate on M2M operations and service development . Both will participate in the M2M Zone Conference at CeBIT.
The M2M sector is showing explosive growth this year, often pegged at a compound annual growth rate of over 20%. Our own M2M Zone Pavilion has more than doubled for this year's CeBIT, making it--in some ways--the largest M2M event in all of Europe. With that in mind, we spoke with Frank Poerschmann, Global Head of CeBIT, for his take on M2M's role at the show.
The CeBIT 2001 M2M Zone Pavilion, located at the center of Telematics Hall 7, has more than doubled in size since last year's show, reflecting the already strong growth of this potentially explosive industry. With 14 of the most influential M2M names exhibiting, the M2M Zone is home to the manufacturers and service providers of the latest and most advanced machine-to-machine technology in existence.
M2M applications that take advantage of LTE networks will dominate this year's CeBIT, said Norbert Handke, CEO of ITS Network Germany (Brussels, Belgium), in an exclusive interview earlier this month. Dr. Handke also let slip a few products and services that his company, Intelligent Communications Systems, will be exhibiting during the week.
