Digital security specialist Oberthur Technologies says its M-Connect solution is to support M2M connectivity services being offered by in1SIM.
Under a deal between the two players, market trials are planned for this year with energy distribution companies based in Northern Europe.
Oberthur (Levallois-Perret, France) says a combination of its technology with that of in1SIM will answer a need for a “global and reliable” solution for connecting smart objects to mobile networks.
Oberthur adds that its M-Connect product has been designed to comply with GSM Association standardization, ensuring that subscriptions can be securely activated and changed.
The technology is designed to let in1SIM (Oulu, Finland) download the best mobile subscription but switch to an available network in case of a loss of connectivity.
“The end-to-end solution combining our M-Connect solution and the service of in1SIM provides the most effective way to deploy mobile M2M services,” said Marek Juda, managing director of the solutions business unit at Oberthur. “Smart objects will automatically be connected to the most optimum network wherever they are distributed and vendors will achieve global connectivity through local carriers.”
“End-users will also benefit from a better and more reliable service, for instance with accurate bills based on their real-time energy usage,” added Juda.
in1SIM believes the Oberthur technology will help it to better serve customers while “optimizing network resource consumption”.
“Partnering with multiple mobile operators, in1SIM provides connectivity services to different M2M applications, where reliability of mobile connections matter,” said Petteri Holma, in1SIM’s chief executive. “Beyond the utilities sector, the solution is now available for security and safety, vehicle telematics and industrial remote monitoring customers.”
Citing data from Machina Research – forecasting the number of connected devices will reach 24 billion in 2020 – Oberthur says it will demonstrate its products at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona, Spain.
