MiX Telematics has launched a new configurable video recording system allowing fleet managers to view footage of drivers and their view of the road.
Called MiX Vision, the service is apparently designed as an add-on to the telematics specialist’s existing fleet-management service.
“With this powerful solution, video footage of the driver and his view of the road is captured simultaneously, thereby enabling fleet managers to assess the circumstances at the time of an actual or reported incident,” said Charles Tasker, the head of fleet solutions at MiX Telematics (Stellenbosch, South Africa). “MiX Vision places operators at the scene and will prove invaluable for fleet operators who want to enhance driver behavior, improve safety and reduce costs relating to false claims.”
MiX Vision comprises a tamper-resistant camera unit that can be attached to the inside of a vehicle windscreen.
When the telematics system detects events like harsh-braking, over-speeding or collision, it automatically sends video clips to fleet managers.
Fleet managers can access all footage generated in this way at the end of a completed trip.
“Notably, the event triggers are highly configurable, which means that our customers have the freedom to predetermine any driving event for which they would like to record video footage,” said Tasker.
The service is designed not only to help operators reduce costs but also to protect drivers in cases where they are not a fault, and it can also be used for driver training initiatives, says MiX Telematics.
“MiX Vision is a further demonstration of our focus on delivering value to fleet owners, through innovative and reliable tools that help make their fleets safer and more efficient,” said Tasker.
