Jasper Wireless, a provider of connected devices platforms for machine-to-machine (M2M) and consumer electronics, and Optimus, a Portuguese mobile network operator, on Wednesday announced an agreement to wirelessly connect machine-to-machine (M2M) and consumer electronics devices across Portugal.
The Jasper Wireless (Mountain View, Calif., USA) platform will provide Optimus (Porto, Portugal) with applications and services to accelerate market entry of new categories of connected devices on its network and connect and manage a range of embedded wireless devices. Jasper Wireless’ ability extends to a variety of M2M connections including automotive, e-readers and healthcare.
This is Jasper’s first partnership in Portugal. The company says it sees tremendous opportunities in connected consumer electronics, smart meters and home automation.
“Portugal has a strong telecom market with a vibrant mobile sector and a growing broadband customer base,” said Manuel Eanes, executive director at Optimus. “By adding M2M functionality to our offering we are able to service a wider range of customers in a quickly developing market landscape.”
As consumer electronics and M2M devices come to market with embedded connectivity, market success can depends on finding the right business models to reach disparate population segments, says Jasper Wireless. Jasper Wireless has developed applications and services that support business models as well as the automation of operational processes, including custom device provisioning, instant activation, real-time diagnostic tools and detailed billing and usage reports.
