On Wednesday, Gemalto , a digital security company, announced it has been selected by U.S. Cellular, a mobile operator serving six million customers in 26 states, for its fourth generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) service launch.
Gemalto (Amsterdam, Netherlands) will provide its LinqUs Advanced Connectivity service. The service, building on Gemalto's LinqUs Advanced OTA platform and utilizing its LTE subscriber module, will enable U.S. Cellular (Chicago, Ill., USA) to authenticate subscribers to the LTE and CDMA networks and manage its secure access to 4G services.
The LinqUsAdvanced OTA platform enables U.S. Cellular to instantly activate subscriptions and manage access to personalized services over IP-based LTE mobile networks.
The UpTeq LTE is embedded with Gemalto's polling software that enables automatic update. This helps ensure 100% success rate for the download and activation of mission critical applications including M2M subscriptions, large NFC payment applications and the credentials for streaming video content over LTE networks, says Gemalto.
The LinqUs Advanced Connectivity service still includes all existing legacy applications and card features to guarantee fill backward compatibility.
Gemalto has already worked with other U.S. carriers on LTE deployments, including Verizon, Sprint and MetroPCS Communications, as well as global carriers such as NTT DoCoMo.
