Prova Systems  (Carbondale, Pa., U.S.A.) a developer of wireless On-Board diagnostic systems, recently announced the availability of a fleet management system for small businesses, local governments and consumers.
“Fleet Manager in a Box ” is a fleet management system that features a free-wireless data collection system that eliminates the monthly cellular fees incurred by GPS based fleet management  systems, says Prova Systems.
The product comes ready-to-install with On-Board diagnostics and trip loggers, allowing fleet managers to collect and analyze information on the performance of their fleet vehicles. Monitoring this information can manage preventive maintenance, diagnose and decode vehicle error codes (DTCs), analyze vehicle and fleet utilization, track and trend fuel economy and monitor driver behavior, says Prova Systems.
The system comes in 2 different editions: on-demand wireless or drive-by wireless, according to a Proca Systems spokesperson. The main difference is that drive-by wireless offers a larger wireless operating range and can retrieve vehicle trip information from vehicles as they drive-by and supports 150’ wireless radius, similar to WiFi router.
The system also provides full trip based usage statistics, mileage and duration of each trip, average speed and max speed per trip, real engine idle time, estimated fuel usage and average MPG and out-of-hours usage.
The Fleet Manger in Box for home use of 2 cars is $499, while the same on-demand system for five or 10 vehicles is $1,989 and $3,334. The Drive-by editions for five and 10 vehicles come in at $2,439 and $3,794.
It is estimated that an average 25 vehicle fleet will save $42,000 over five years versus other systems due to the elimination of monthly cellular fees, says John Collins, president of Prova Systems.
Fleet Manager in a Box works with all cars and light-duty vehicles manufactured since 1996 including hybrid and electric vehicles and is customer installable, says the company.
The system can be deployed in fleets with no existing fleet management systems and can also be used to replace GPS based systems in sections of fleets that don’t require minute-by-minute tracking, according to the company.
