The Professional mobile radio (PMR) terminal market jumped a staggering 25% in terms of unit volumes in 2010 (compared to 2009), according to the latest data from IMS Research.
There has been very strong growth across the PMR terminal market in EMEA, where IMS Research’s latest figures indicate that revenue growth in 2010 was even higher than the 25% unit growth figure. This is seen as great news for the industry following a 2009 that saw huge declines.
The latest data from IMS Research indicates that the licensed analogue market was hit the hardest in 2009 and although it has shown good recovery in 2010, it was still below pre-recession levels. However, digital technologies gained market share during the recession and are continuing post-recession. Indeed digital is the main driver for the +25% growth seen in the market for 2010.
Thomas Lynch, Mobile Radio Market Analyst at IMS Research states “There is a movement towards digital technologies with new players and new technologies entering the market. That said, analogue still continues to hold the greatest market share in terms of volumes.”
IMS Research will be publishing its latest data on the licensed mobile radio market in its upcoming report “Licensed Mobile Radio – World – 2011.”
