Wireless sensors specialist Monnit has launched a new M2M cellular gateway that it claims addresses the needs of a variety of M2M applications.
Unveiled at this week’s CTIA Wireless Show in Las Vegas, the gateway is has been designed in response to rising demand for low-cost and reliable “connect-from-anywhere” monitoring solutions, says Monnit (Midvale, UT, USA).
“The demand for cellular connected sensors is enormous,” said Brad Walters, Monnit’s chief executive. “Monnit’s new cellular gateway provides a low-cost solution for those in need of remotely monitoring various aspects of their business, without the need of an existing internet connection.”
The gateway – the MonnitLink Cellular Gateway model CGW2 – is described as an advanced, all-wireless M2M gateway that supports Monnit sensors, which are able to detect and monitor functions critical to business operations.
These include temperature, humidity, water, light, access and movement.
The gateways work by transmitting data between local sensor networks and Monnit’s online data monitoring system – called iMonnit – which then aggregates the information and sends notifications via text or email if user-defined conditions are met or exceeded.
All Monnit’s sensors include basic iMonnit online sensor monitoring with text and email alerting.
Monnit says the new cellular gateway has been certified for use on the CDMA cellular network of Verizon (New York City, NY, USA).
