After a muted opening, most exhibitors are quite pleased with foot traffic on this the second day of CeBIT 2011 in Hannover, Germany. But many M2M exhibitors are going a step further and reporting, to their delight, show-goers are far more familiar with the concept of machine-to-machine communication than ever before.
Ian Munro, Director of International Sales for KORE Telematics, sums it up nicely: "there aren't as many people asking 'what's M2M?'" Munro believes this has to do with the region. "People understand here in Germany," he says, far more than other similar shows, such as CTIA in the US.
Other vendors believe this is simply a product of the developing market. Alexander Bufalino, whom we interviewed for commentary on the Telit / Motorola acquisition, called it "a logical consequence of business development." Still, CeBIT seems to have marked a turning point in attendee awareness. Similar reports have come in from representatives of CETECOM and Wyless, each citing an informed public and plenty of new contacts.
Helene Hartlief, Marketing Manager for KPN, believes this shift is the result of both the region and the times. She points out one major benefit that all exhibitors can identify with: much less explaining. And for marketing personnel at this sometimes arduous week-long event, every little bit helps.
