Antenna provider Antenova is to rebrand itself as Antenova M2M and focus on building its position in the M2M and connected-device markets following the departure of chief executive Greg McCray in February.
With McCray now heading up ACAL Energy (Runcorn, UK) – a developer of fuel cell systems – Antenova (Cambridge, UK) is reportedly being led by managing director Chris Flack.
The company says its antenna solutions already have a proven track record in a range of M2M settings, including telematics, automatic meter reading, m-health, wireless security and home automation.
“The global M2M market is growing at rapid pace and Antenova M2M is fast becoming the antenna partner of choice with wireless module vendors, system integrators and device manufacturers,” said Colin Newman, the company’s vice president of sales and marketing.
Newman claims that one of Antenova’s strengths is its experience of working with a range of wireless technologies.
“Most of our customers require more than one type of wireless connectivity for their M2M applications,” he said. “For instance, most tracker applications for vehicles and personal safety require a GPS connection for location information and a cellular connection for communicating back to the system operator, while home automation or security systems may use a Bluetooth, ZigBee or ISM connection for communication between nodes in the home, office or building, but use a Wi-Fi, GSM or LTE broadband connection to the service provider.”
Antenova’s gigaNOVA-branded antennas are said to be popular with module and device vendors because they are compatible with GSM, GPRS and 3G standards, while its Clarki antenna is described as a “space-saving” device because it can be mounted in a way that allows the module and antenna to “share PCB space”.
Antenova employs just a handful of sales staff in Cambridge, UK, while most of its engineering work is carried out in Taiwan.
