Expanding its role in the M2M value chain, Aeris Communications has launched a cloud-based platform providing data management and analytics functionality for M2M applications.
The company, which operates a CDMA-based network exclusively for M2M services, says the launch of AerCloud will expand its product line-up all the way from the network through to the applications.
The platform is aimed at helping application developers to collect and store data, mine it for insights and then allow it to be used in applications and by third parties.
Aeris (Santa Clara, CA, USA) claims the use of AerCloud could help application developers to reduce application development time and cost by a factor of ten.
It also says the platform can be used with any M2M connected device and communications technology but will deliver “unique benefits” when combined with its M2M network service.
“With AerCloud, we enable M2M solution providers to leverage the most precious part of their solutions: the data,” said Marc Jones, the chief executive of Aeris.”
“Traditionally, M2M solutions have been about posting raw data to stovepipe applications to provide enterprises with clues on operational drivers. But now our customers,” he added. “But now our customers can take advantage of AerisCloud’s groundbreaking, true cloud architecture and unique functionalities to access high-value business information for their operations and establish disruptive models for their business, easily and cost effectively.”
According to research from IDC, more companies will be looking to use cloud-based platforms as the M2M market develops.
“Data and applications are where the value will be realized,” said Carrie MacGillivray, the vice president of mobile services at IDC. “Vendors who are able to incorporate data and applications into their Internet of Things story will be well positioned for success.”
