Market-research company The 451 Group has bought rival Yankee Group, which focuses on the mobile communications industry, for an undisclosed sum from private-equity firm Alta Communications.
Following the acquisition, Yankee Group (Boston, USA) will operate as an independent division within The 451 Group (New York, USA), which had more than 200 employees prior to the takeover.
The companies did not provide details of current staff numbers within Yankee Group but say the organization’s role henceforth will be to “provide thought leadership, advisory, data and certification services on the evolution of digital infrastructure”.
Terry Waters, who has been the chief executive of Yankee Group since 2010, will continue to lead Yankee Group following the transaction, reporting directly to Martin V McCarthy, The 451 Group’s chairman and chief executive.
McCarthy describes the acquisition as “an exciting opportunity to significantly extend The 451 Group’s focus on the evolution of digital infrastructure”.
