For these operators and their enablers, who do not own networks and need to reach agreements with existing companies to offer and distribute their services, SmartFlex can provide a preconfigured platform that is ready to operate and support MVNO and MVNE schemes, according to Open’s press release.

The preconfigured platform is designed to allow for comprehensive commercial operations capable of managing voice and data services over mobile platforms and make it easy to create business alternatives with high levels of bundling and billing and comprehensive views of their customers.

“MVNO and MVNE are growth sectors with important players in Colombia and Latin America,” Pedro Felipe Ordóñez, an Open industry consultant, said. “With [the new Mobile BOSS SmartFlex] suite we currently support the business and operations of telephony and virtual mobile Internet companies in Ecuador and Colombia.”

Ordóñez said, “By not having to incur in frequency spectrum concession expenditures, they can extend their services portfolio with no additional operating costs and make improved offerings, such as combined fixed and mobile service packages. They can better face competitors by extending a wide range of offers to their users, which in turn makes for a more dynamic market and significantly lower rates.”
