Bell Canada expands its FTTN reach

Canadian incumbent will extend fiber to MDUs

Bell Canada is giving apartment dwellers living in their respective territory another reason to love broadband: fiber-based services.

Already aggressively rolling out FTTN throughout its regions, Bell will deploy high-speed fiber access directly to new condominiums and other multi-dwelling units (MDUs) throughout the Quebec-Windsor corridor. Bell’s Fiber to the Node (FTTN) program is deploying fiber to within less than a kilometer of homes throughout the Quebec-Windsor corridor — 2.4 million households will be covered by the end of 2008. FTTN is also being deployed in all new suburban housing developments.

This new Fiber to the MDU program offers the benefits of high-speed fiber to thousands of residents in hundreds of new high-rise developments.

“More and more Bell Internet customers in our largest markets are living in condominium developments and other new MDUs. Our Fiber to MDU program will ensure they enjoy the high-speed bandwidth offered by new fiber on their Bell Internet service,” said Kevin Crull, President of Bell Residential Services in an official announcement about the new service. “Coupled with our ongoing expansion of Bell TV service — formerly ExpressVu — in condos and apartments, this move to high-speed Bell Internet on fiber for new MDUs further enhances the Bell Better Home Bundle of communications services.”
