Telecommuting top work choice for small business owners
Survey: 64-75% say Internet plays integral role
by Telecommunications staff, from news reports
Small business owners in the U.S. are more likely than
employees to conduct business away from the traditional
workplace, according to a survey sponsored by Citrix Online,
with 50 percent saying they did so frequently and 25 percent
doing so all the time.
The poll found that 41 percent of small business owners can
be classified as "web commuters," people who use Internet
technologies to work away from the office.
"Web Commuting and the American Workforce" examines the
extent to which technologies allow professionals to accomplish
tasks away from the conventional office.
The Internet would play an integral role for 64 to 75 percent
of small business owners should they be allowed to work
remotely, the poll revealed; while 58 percent of owners said
they would benefit from a fast, affordable way to meet over
the Internet with colleagues in different locations.
The telephone survey was conducted in September 2007 by
the polling company, inc. for Citrix Online. Six hundred
American adults currently in the workforce, or who have plans
to enter the workforce within three years, were polled, with an
oversample of 100 small business owners.
