Keymile Launches Compact IP-DSLAM Solution

New IP-DSLAM to Boost Bandwidth and Cut Costs

Equipment vendor Keymile has launched what it claims is a groundbreaking IP-DSLAM at this week’s Broadband World Forum in Paris.

Torsten Bethke, head of marketing and communication with Keymile, says that the Milegate 2110 is a more compact, less complex IP-DSLAM than competing solutions, which means that it can be installed as part of what he terms an ‘outer deployment’ – exterior housing that is much closer to the customer than has previously been possible.

From an operator’s perspective this means the subscriber line length can be reduced and the bandwidth increased. Keymile argues that this advantage makes it ideal for use with high- bandwidth applications over ADSL2+ and VDSL, such as video on demand and online gaming.

Bethke also claims that migration from older systems to Milegate 2110 is relatively straightforward and that it allows a broadband connection to a home to be established ‘at the flick of a switch’. Reducing the time spent on setting up a home in this fashion will, he argues, lead to opex savings in the long-term.

Keymile has enjoyed considerable success to date, serving more than 16 million access lines in 100 countries worldwide, but Bethke agrees that regulatory wrangling over the deployment of VDSL in countries such as Germany is a potential barrier to the continuing rollout of broadband services such as IPTV.
