TM Forum Highlight: Optical Network bursts onto scene

In one of the highlights of the TM Forum Management World event in Dublin last week, the Irish government showed off its Exemplar project, a “metro ring” carrier network in Dublin that is said to be the first to incorporate optical burst switching, a technology that could have broad implications in greatly improving the efficiency and capacity of carrier networks.

Toyota cars to be "friends" with driver

Toyota Motor Corp (Japan) and cloud computing company Salesforce.com Inc (San Francisco, CA) will build a social network service that will enable owners to become "friends" with their cars and get friendly, tweet-like reminders for maintenance checks and other notices.

The deal marks the second tie-up between the world's biggest automaker and a software company in as many months. Toyota and Microsoft Corp last month announced plans to bring Internet-connected services to Toyota's cars across the world.

Average employee uses only 13% of monthly wireless data cap

Xigo (Manassas, VA), the cloud-based solution that simplifies managing enterprise telecommunications costs, conducted a research audit on data gleaned from its base of 250,000 phones under advisement for the month of March 2011. Xigo’s research findings indicate that average enterprise mobile phone users with wireless data plans use less than one-sixth of their monthly cap, and users with voice plans use slightly more than two-thirds of their allotted minutes. As a result, enterprises are paying for considerably more data and voice bandwidth than their employees actually need.

European telecom Tele2 scales with ActiveVOS BPMS
