Mobidia Technology, Inc. (Richmond, British Columbia, Canada), a provider of mobile data solutions for increasing efficiency and manageability of wireless data networks, has announced the release of a client-based, subscriber-centric policy control solution that allows subscribers to monitor, control, and buy mobile data.

In the fall of 2010, Consumer Reports reported one in five U.S. mobile subscribers reported receiving an unexpectedly high bill in the previous year. The FCC also released a report in the fall of 2010 indicating that 60 million wireless phone subscribers in the U.S. had received unexpected charges. Many of these charges were driven by data use. It is clear a large number of subscribers simply do not understand their data plans or how their behavior drives incremental charges. And this problem is clearly global as evidenced by Europe’s decision to implement “bill shock” regulation.

Mobidia has extended its product offering to include a solution that addresses “bill shock” and more importantly, puts subscribers’ interests in the center of policy control implementations. Hopefully, Mobidia’s solution will allow them to understand how they consume data and to choose the right plan for their usage level.

Mobidia’s solutions are now available to wireless operators and vendors for evaluation.
