Malaysia’s DiGi has joined a raft of other companies developing M2M platforms, launching a technology it claims will help M2M customers to reduce costs, improve efficiency and develop new revenue opportunities.

Its newly launched M2M platform promises real-time access and allows customers to control and manage devices, applications and the network.

“Our new M2M platform enables businesses to perform better and makes the world smarter,” said Albern Murty, DiGi’s (Shah Alam, Malaysia) chief marketing officer. “When machines communicate, people get better at what they do and this translates to improved efficiencies and growth for the business.”

“The new capability empowers our customers to realize the true potential of M2M for better user experience,” said Murty.

According to DiGi’s statement, a web-based M2M portal will provide a wide range of tools, including SIM management, real-time traffic surveillance and alert functions, statistics and diagnostics, as well as billing and support.

Meanwhile, an application programming interface will allow businesses to fully integrate their systems with the M2M platform.

“Connected services open up a world of possibilities,” said Murty. “For businesses in the logistics and transport sector, packages are now able to communicate their location, allowing real-time parcel tracking.”

“The same M2M application allows public to have real-time updates on the estimated time of arrival for their train or bus,” he added. “In retail, M2M provides better point-of-sale data, and improves shopping experiences through location-based services.”

DiGi says customers who subscribe to its M2M service will automatically be upgraded to the new platform and be able to enjoy its features free of additional charges.
