Option's wireless embedded modules now certified by AT&T

Option (Leuven, Belgium), a wireless technology company, on Tuesday announced the data certification of its wireless embedded modules by AT&T (Dallas, Texas). These embedded modules are designed for a variety of mobile devices including tablets, consumer electronic devices, netbooks, routers and notebooks; and fit a range of high bandwidth M2M applications such as digital signage, automotive and security cameras.

RACO Wireless partners with Securus, Direct Communication Solutions

RACO Wireless (Cincinnati, Ohio), a provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity, announced on Wednesday that it will provide the M2M backbone for Securus Inc. (Cary, N.C.), a provider of GPS-based products and services, as well as provide an M2M service package for vertical market applications to Direct Communication Solutions (DCS) (Coral Spring, Fla.), a distributor of embedded modules for M2M developers.

Huawei embedded modules achieve Verizon certification

Huawei (Shenzhen, P.R.C), a leading network and telecommunications equipment provider, on Thursday announced that the Huawei MC323 and the EM660 have been certified on the Verizon Wireless (Basking Ridge, N.J.) network. According to Verizon, the MC323 and EM660 will provide machine-to-machine (M2M) and other embedded device OEMs and CE (certified) device manufacturers with cost-effective modules that enable manufacturers to develop applications that will operate on its network.

AMD embedded G-Series APUs reduce power consumption for fanless designs

AMD Monday announced immediate availability of two new AMD Embedded G-Series APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) with thermal design power (TDP) ratings of 5.5 and 6.4 watts, up to a 39 percent power savings compared to earlier versions (versus the previously released single-core 9W TDP AMD Embedded G-Series APU model number T44R, operating at 1.2GHz).

Touchscreens drive profit at chipmakers as PC sales slow

Rising sales of smartphones and tablets boosted profit at touchscreen chipmakers Cypress Semiconductor and Synaptics Inc even as their traditionally strong PC market continued to slow down.

Cypress Semiconductor gave a blowout forecast for the current quarter as it expects its touchscreen business to double in 2011.

Meego sees interest from others after Nokia shift

Technology firms such as LG Electronics are moving toward adopting the Linux-based MeeGo operating system after Nokia abandoned it, one of the project's leaders said.

Open-source MeeGo was created last year by the merger of Nokia and Intel's Linux-based platforms, but Nokia pulled back from the project in February when the Finnish firm said it would focus on Microsoft software instead.

Ultimate Solutions, Cypherbridge distribution deal addresses security for 'internet of things'

Securing communications in embedded systems has become increasingly important as the "internet of things" takes off. Cypherbridge Systems, a technology R&D firm, announced a partnering agreement with embedded tools provider Ultimate Solutions. Under this agreement, Ultimate Solutions will now be distributing Cypherbridge's Embedded Security and Device Management solutions in North America.



nPhase launches developer program; opens new M2M markets

nPhase, which this week showcased example partner capabilities with Axeda Corporation Sierra Wireless and CalAmp, provided more details on their nPhase ONE developer program at CTIA Wireless 2011. A Verizon Wireless and Qualcomm Incorporated joint venture, nPhase last week announced a new machine-to-machine (M2M) developer program, called nPhase ONE, that will provide a single M2M application development platform with comprehensive support and advanced M2M capabilities engineered for deployment on Verizon Wireless and Vodafone mobile networks.
