Qualcomm, Ericsson perform voice handover between LTE and WCDMA

Telecom equipment makers Ericsson and Qualcomm Incorporated recently performed a voice handover based on the 3GPP-standardized functionality Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC), demonstrating seamless voice services when users move out of LTE coverage, since the call will automatically be handed over to WCDMA or GSM access during the call.

LTE expected to dominate wireless infrastructure spending in 2013

The wireless technology known as 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) is expected to claim the lion’s share of wireless infrastructure capital spending next year as mobile carriers migrate to that next-generation standard, according to a report by information and analysis provider IHS.

Pakistan to hold 3G license auction on March 29

Pakistan will hold an auction for its first license for third-generation (3G) mobile telecom services on March 29, an official at the country's telecoms authority said on Tuesday. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Mohammed Yaseen said the base price for the auction would be $210 million.

"We're expecting 10 to 15 potential investors in the initial bidding process," says Yaseen.
