Autotech Council Topic: UBx - Usage-Based Services

Start Date:
Friday, February 14, 2014
End Date:
Friday, February 14, 2014

With the increased use of telematics, and the advances in technologies associated with the connected car, it is natural that opportunities emerge to change the way we pay for certain transportation goods and services.

Instead of all users paying a flat rate, UBx is the notion that fees should be "usage based". Thus, people who drive more miles would pay more. But UBx can be far more intelligent and granular. Users can not only be charged based on miles driven, but on how, when, and where they drive.

Some of the topics we hope to cover in this Autotech Council meeting on Usage Based services in the car include:

UBI - Usage Based Insurance
VMT - Vehicle Miles Driven taxes
TaaS - transport as a service, car sharing, or ride services.
