On Monday, Deutsche Telekom announced it has signed a partnership with Lookout Inc., a smartphone security company, to deliver a mobile security application to Deutsche Telekom’s European customers.

The Lookout (San Francisco, Calif., USA) Mobile Security app enables people to find a missing device when it is lost or stolen, manage phone security, and easily backup data. From a single online destination at mylookout.com, people can manage multiple mobile devices and locate a phone or tablet on a Google map, says the company. Lookout makes automatic updates over-the-air, simplifying data and device protection for users. The Lookout Premium app also includes Remote Lock & Wipe, Safe Browsing, and Privacy Advisor.

By partnering with Lookout, Deutsche Telekom (Bonn, Germany) customers will have a way to secure their devices, better manage their mobile privacy and device performance, says Lookout.

“The mobile environment is increasingly led by downloadable mobile applications, often with people customizing their devices with mobile applications from different sources,” says Heikki Makijarvi, Senior Vice President Business Development at Deutsche Telekom. “This drives the importance of security and health on mobile.”

Worldwide, mobile devices have become an attractive target for malware, fraud, hackers and identity theft. In 2011, Lookout identified more than 1,000 instances of mobile malware, a significant increase since 2010.
