Asiatelco and Cluster to combine M2M products

Asiatelco Technologies and Cluster Wireless are to combine their M2M offerings in a bid to provide enhanced, lower-cost services to their business customers.

The deal will see Asiatelco (Shanghai, China) use middleware and software tools developed by Cluster (San Diego, CA, USA) in its range of wireless data access products, which include modules, data terminal units and customized M2M devices.

The tie-up is aimed at bringing “greater enterprise intelligence” to M2M devices and at lowering the cost of deploying M2M services.

Asiatelco believes Cluster’s expertise will give it more programming flexibility during the design, manufacturing, deployment and post-deployment phases and accelerate time to market.

As part of the deal, Cluster is also to contribute its portfolio management services, including enterprise-grade device management, distributed architecture-based service management, sensor management, alarm and fault management, application management and device diagnostics.

“Our customers can quickly program any M2M application using Cluster Wireless M2M middleware and tools, and this allows our M2M modules and M2M devices to be customized to a wide array of use cases,” said Jason Ding, the chief executive of Asiatelco.

As a result of the deal, Cluster will gain exposure to the large customer base of Asiatelco, which claims to have sold its products in more than 30 countries and runs sales offices in South America, Central Asia and Southeast Asia.

“We are pleased to partner with Asiatelco to provide a complete M2M solution,” said Tom O’Neill, Cluster’s chief executive. “Asiatelco’s proven M2M products help our customers develop M2M solutions quicker. Our products and services ensure that customers can fine-tune their devices to meet ever-changing business requirements for M2M deployments.”

The companies say Cluster’s software and tools will be immediately available on Asiatelco’s M2M modules and data terminal unit products.
