SkyWave (Ottawa, Canada), an Inmarsat-based satellite solution provider, is exhibiting at CeBIT 2011 this week and showcasing their dual-mode SureLinx 8100 M2M module. The system reduces operational costs by intelligently delivering data messages using the lowest-cost message routing: cellular frequencies when in range of terrestrial networks, and satellite service in other areas.

With that in mind, we spoke with Frank Poerschmann, Global Head of CeBIT, for his take on M2M's role at the show.
The CeBIT 2001 M2M Zone Pavilion, located at the center of Telematics Hall 7, has more than doubled in size since last year's show, reflecting the already strong growth of this potentially explosive industry. With 14 of the most influential M2M names exhibiting, the M2M Zone is home to the manufacturers and service providers of the latest and most advanced machine-to-machine technology in existence.
M2M applications that take advantage of LTE networks will dominate this year's CeBIT, said Norbert Handke, CEO of ITS Network Germany (Brussels, Belgium), in an exclusive interview earlier this month. Dr. Handke also let slip a few products and services that his company, Intelligent Communications Systems, will be exhibiting during the week.
LightSquared (Reston, VA, USA), a wholesale-only wireless broadband and satellite network provider, has closed on $586 million of debt, led by UBS AG and JP Morgan. LightSquared will use the proceeds of the financing for general corporate purposes, which include constructing its 4G-LTE network. Over the last seven months, the financially troubled company has raised more than $2 billion in debt and equity.
