Telefonica and Orange sign telepresence agreement

Telefónica (Madrid, Spain) and Orange (Paris, France), providers of communication services, have signed an agreement on Tuesday to allow customers in their respective networks to conduct telepresence sessions.

This agreement comes right after another telepresence deal made by Orange, having made an agreement with Tata Communications in April.

According to Orange, the agreement with Telefónica aims to create an open environment that allows customers of various telepresence providers open access to connect across a much broader business ecosystem.

SK Telecom requests sanction for alleged excessive handset subsidies

SK Telecom Co. (Seoul, South Korea) requested on Wednesday that regulators sanction KT Corp (Seongnam, South Korea) and LG Uplus (Seoul, South Korea) for allegedly hurting competition with excessive handset purchase subsidies.

SK Telecom, which controls more than half of the country's mobile phone market, asked the Korea Communications Commission to probe marketing activities by KT Corp and LG Uplus, to which it lost a net 23,800 customers from the beginning of May to June 14.

Samsung and Apple predicted to surpass Nokia in smartphone sales

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (Seoul, South Korea) will become the world's largest smartphone maker this quarter, overtaking Nokia Oyj (Espoo, Finland) which has lead the market since 1996, Nomura, a provider of investment and global market capabilities, said on Monday.

In the next quarter Nomura also predicts Apple Inc (Cupertino, Calif.) overtaking Nokia, pushing the Finnish company to No. 3 in the rankings.

(Schaffhausen, Switzerland), a provider of satellite navigation, and Navigon AG (Hamburg, Germany), a manufacturer of GPS devices and navigation software, announced Tuesday that Garmin Ltd. and the shareholders of Navigon AG have signed an agreement for a subsidiary of Garmin to acquire privately-held navigation provider Navigon AG ("Navigon").

Eurotech and Mondialpol sign agreement for the cloud computing tracking app in cash transport

Eurotech (Udine, Italy) and Mondialpol Service (Milan, Italy) last Monday announced the finalization of an agreement for the real-time monitoring of deliveries and withdrawals of cash via cloud computing thanks to "Cloud Ready" mobile devices from Eurotech. The agreement will aim to improve the service level provided to the Intesa Sanpaolo Group (Turin, Italy), making cash transport and counting more efficient and increasing security standards.

White space startup launches M2M network products in UK

Neul (Cambridge, UK), a company offering products and services for the emerging TV white space spectrum, on Monday announced the launch NeulNET, a production wireless radio system that is designed to use free, high quality white space spectrum, delivering wireless connections over long distances.

White space radio takes advantage of unused TV channels as we switch from analogue TV to digital TV. Signals in these frequencies can travel long distances and easily penetrate walls. This makes white space radio ideal for long-range applications that require wide-area connectivity.

Sensus defines the smart grid for water

Sensus (Raleigh, N.C.), a utilities infrastructure company, on Monday announced its AquaSense intelligent water management system, which integrates the Sensus FlexNet two-way communications network- a network that provides smart grid utilities with multiple channels free of interference from competing traffic- with advanced meters, software and services to help utilities boost operational efficiency and customer engagement.

Sensus is helping water utilities across the country implement water management projects.

Telenor parteners with Octo Telematics

Octo Telematics (Rome, Italy), a company providing telematics to the insurance and automotive market, on Wednesday announced its partnership with Telenor Connexion (Stockholm, Sweden), an M2M network provider. The partnership will allow Octo Telematics to use Telenor’s standardized connectivity applications for multiple markets including an online service portal and APN/VPN.

Huawei embedded modules achieve Verizon certification

Huawei (Shenzhen, P.R.C), a leading network and telecommunications equipment provider, on Thursday announced that the Huawei MC323 and the EM660 have been certified on the Verizon Wireless (Basking Ridge, N.J.) network. According to Verizon, the MC323 and EM660 will provide machine-to-machine (M2M) and other embedded device OEMs and CE (certified) device manufacturers with cost-effective modules that enable manufacturers to develop applications that will operate on its network.
