Spirent Communications and Anue Systems Tuesday introduced a mobile backhaul testing solution designed to validate timing and synchronization as well as carrier Ethernet protocols including SyncE, IEEE 1588 / PTPv2, and EthOAM. The new Spirent Anue 3500 provides carriers and network equipment manufacturers with a comprehensive test impairment and analysis platform for mobile backhaul.

M2M vendors report quarterly earnings

Several prominent vendors in the M2M industry have reported quarterly earnings during April and May. M2M earnings were mostly up for the first quarter of 2011 for vendors mentioned in this roundup, although Sierra Wireless reported a loss which the company's President and CEO, Jason Cohenour, called a "short-term situation" in a press release.

Sprint teams with Trimble to deliver fleet management services to general services administration

Sprint today announced that it is teaming with Trimble, a provider of location-based technology solutions, to provide U.S. government agencies a broad range of fleet management capabilities and solutions as part of a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) awarded by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

The BPA will be administered by GSA Fleet, which provides fleet management services to more than 75 participating federal agencies. With more than 217,000 vehicles, GSA Fleet manages one of the largest non-tactical federal fleets in the U.S. government.

Verizon Wireless and USAT partner to deliver cashless payment, M2M solutions

Verizon Wireless and USA Technologies, Inc. announced in April a collaboration that further accelerates the adoption of wireless cash payment services and machine-to-machine applications via USA Technologies' patented ePort Connect Service. USA Technologies solution will now include the Verizon Wireless network for connectivity that enables wireless point-of-sale payments at vending machines via credit and debit cards.

ABB acquires Mincom to expand enterprise software business

ABB, the global power and automation technology group, has agreed to acquire Mincom to broaden its software portfolio and establish the Group as a market leader in enterprise asset management (EAM) software and services.

ABB is acquiring the Brisbane, Australia-based company from Francisco Partners, a private equity group that invests in technology businesses, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
