Vodafone (Newbury, UK) has announced it will unveil a range of new M2M products for smart meters and homes at this week’s Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2012 show being held in Amsterdam.
The UK operator plans to give practical demonstrations of solar panel remote monitoring, energy data management tools for business and its Global M2M Platform to show how smart metering can help businesses improve customer satisfaction, streamline operations and reduce energy costs.
The company says it will unveil its solution for the remote monitoring of solar panels using a live portal that presents performance and energy efficiency data in clear, easy-to-access reports.
It will also demonstrate its energy data management tool, which is designed to help businesses with offices in multiple locations to better manage and reduce energy consumption.
As traditional voice and texting applications become commodity services, Vodafone is looking to M2M communications as a future growth opportunity.
But analysts say operators will have to provide more than plain old connectivity to reap the rewards of the M2M market. Meanwhile, recent data from Informa, a market-research company, shows that just 0.5% of operators’ revenues are currently generated by M2M services.
