TomTom (Amsterdam, Netherlands), a manufacturer of automotive navigation systems, on Monday announced the launch of a portable navigation device with a suite of travel applications including real-time traffic updates.
The connected TomTom GO LIVE 1535M device combines road and traffic information from TomTom HD Traffic with travel-related applications to give people information needed to navigate more efficiently, according to the company. The device will be available starting in October and will cost $249.
The TomTom GO LIVE delivers real-time information and continuously monitoring and rerouting drivers based on current traffic conditions. TomTom HD Traffic aims to provide accurate reporting by capturing traffic jams as they happen, says TomTom. Additionally, TomTom HD Traffic processes traffic conditions for all major and secondary roads within the U.S. road network and delivers real-time traffic updates to devices every two minutes.
Through the device, drivers can browse through travel applications from Yelp, TripAdvisor, Expedia and Twitter. With these applications, users can read restaurant reviews, find hotel availability or automatically tweet their arrival time without ever leaving the car, says TomTom. Additionally, they'll have access to updated fuel prices, weather forecasts, and Local Search.
Other features of the TomTOm GO LIVE device include voice recognition with one-step address entry, Bluetooth hands-free calling, an integrated mount with flip-screen, spoken street names and live map updates of North America.
