Jasper Wireless tops ranking of CDP vendors

Jasper Wireless retains its number-one spot in ABI Research’s latest ranking of Connected Device Platform (CDP) vendors, but Ericsson is starting to make its presence felt in the fast-growing sector.

The company, which was singled out as a “clear leader” in ABI’s July assessment, continues to beat off rivals, with its global footprint, dominant market share and vertical-specific expertise fundamental to its securing top position this time round.

Vendors are racing to sign up the few remaining Tier 1 operators that have not already built their own CDPs or selected a third-party alternative, and Jasper Wireless [Mountain View, USA] is winning “at a canter”, says ABI, with its global footprint giving it a key advantage.

“Operator alliances will soon become a more integral feature of M2M market development,” says report author Craig Foster. “A key enabler of this is likely to be the use of the Jasper Wireless CDP by MNOs [mobile network operators] in multiple regions. Thanks to a slew of partnerships with leading MNOs such as KPN [The Hague, Netherlands], Optimus [Porto, Portugal], and Telefónica [Madrid, Spain] in Europe; AT&T [Dallas, USA] and Rogers [Toronto, Canada] in North America; América Móvil [Mexico City, Mexico] in Latin America; Telstra [Melbourne, Australia], CSL [Hong Kong], and SingTel [Singapore] in Asia Pacific; VimpelCom [Moscow, Russia] in Russia, and Etisalat [Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates] in the Middle East/Africa, Jasper enables MNOs to support OEMs in rolling out worldwide services for their customers.”

Foster also highlighted Ericsson as one to watch. “Ericsson has a long way to go in order to catch up with Jasper but recent deals with Swisscom, MegaFon [Moscow, Russia], TeliaSonera [Stockholm, Sweden] and more recently, Three Wholesale [Maidenhead, UK], show that the company is making traction, in Europe at least.”

ABI’s competitive assessment rates the eight leading third-party M2M CDP vendors on their implementation and innovation capabilities and also scores them on the basis of market share.
