Company veteran John Lazar takes top helm

John Lazar, the newly appointed CEO of MetaSwitch, addresses his new role and how he will position the company to address next-gen voice switching market trends.

• During your 22-year tenure at DataConnection and Metaswitch you collectively have held a diversity roles that included everything from support, sales, marketing and general management and now CEO. Can you talk about how the industry has changed since the late 1980s and your immediate goals as CEO of the company’s carrier and network protocols divisions?
• One of your crowning achievements during your tenure at Metaswitch came during the division’s formative years when you helped establish the North American carrier division in 2000. Talk about the formation of that division and how it has evolved over the past eight years?
• In announcing your appointment to CEO, the company subsequently said it plans to consolidate all of its products and business operations, including the network protocols disivion, under the MS brand. What’s driving that event and can you share with us the process that will be required to make it successful?
• Since being founded in the early 1980s, Data Connection has had a remarkable ability to attract and maintain top telecom talent, while remaining a private company during great periods of consolidation. Tell me how the company has been able to maintain a culture that breeds innovation and employee enthusiasm?
• During the recent MetaSwitch Forum customer forum event in Las Vegas, MetaSwitch launched the MetaSwitch Innovators Community. How is this idea resonating with your carrier customers, and do you believe that such initiatives are necessary to help service providers stay viable in a rapidly consolidating market?
