Ofer Gneezy, CEO of iBasis has always had big dreams. Like many startups, Gneezy, along with iBasis co-founder and Executive VP Gordon VanderBrug, began the company with a vision of providing wholesale voice outsourcing in the basement of Gneezy’s home in 1996.
With the completion of its acquisition of KPN’s wholesale voice business, iBasis is helping to lead the consolidation of the wholesale voice market. In this special NXTcomm 2008 edition of Telecommunications' Audiocast Series, Editor in Chief Sean Buckley talks to Gneezy about the state of the international wholesale voice business.
In this Audiocast, Gneezy addresses the following questions:
A number of times you have talked about how the nature of the
wholesale voice market is evolving. Can you talk about that evolution
and how iBasis is addressing it?
Late last year, one of the most significant events for iBasis was the
merger of KPN’s international wholesale voice business into iBasis. How
has that merger gone since it was closed and what are the measureable
benefits you gain from it?
With your acquisition of KPN’s wholesale voice business, in some ways
you have become one of the industry segment’s consolidators. Do you
see more consolidation of the international voice traffic market this year,
and do you have plans for other acquisitions?
Along with fixed line operator growth, iBasis continues to fare well in the
mobile market. How are the dynamics of the mobile voice market
changing?
