Machine to machine (M2M) communications may have only caught the hearts and minds of the media and analyst community in recent years as a means to help vertical industries such as utilities and medical facilities automate their varied processes, but the overall idea has existed for decades in the form of telemetry. In the following Audiocast, Editor in Chief Sean Buckley talks to Alex Brisbourne, President & Chief Operating Officer of Kore Telematics about the state of the M2M market.
Brisbourne addresses the following questions in this Audiocast:
• The Yankee Group charts three elements of M2M industry growth (i.e.,
emerging, transition and advanced), but what’s your overall take on the
state of the M2M market?
• Over the past few years, we have seen the emergence of some M2M-
specific providers such as KORE and Aeris come into the market. What
do operators like yourselves bring into the overall M2M food chain, and
do you feel like you’re helping to drive further M2M industry growth?
• One of the latest developments in wireless is open access, a concept
whereby wireless operators open up their networks to third-party
application developers. Will that help further growth of M2M applications?
• Can you cite some real-world examples where an enterprise or a vertical
industry segment took advantage of M2M services for their daily
operations?
