Virtela finds continued acceptance of "asset-light" VNO model
Establishes beachhead of managed edge service capabilities
by Sean Buckley
In the following Audiocast, Sean Buckley, Editor in Chief of Telecommunications, talks to Bill Dodds, Co-President & Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Virtela, about how the managed services it provides are proof that the VNO service model can work.
In this Audiocast, Dodds answers the following questions:
• Virtela calls itself a hybrid Virtual Network Operator (VNO). To start, how has the VNO model
evolved since the company was founded? Second, do you feel like you have to educate customers on the VNO model differs from how a traditional service provider provides service?
• In 2007, Virtela saw a 25 percent increase in revenue. What do you attribute to that growth and what do you think you can bring to the table better than a traditional carrier?
• To build on your ongoing growth in Asia-Pacific and Europe, Virtela is increasing its focus on Latin America and the Mid-East. Are you seeing new demand in those regions for your service?
• CTS, a global electronics manufacturer, told us late last year that one of
the drivers for going with Virtela was your overall proactive and
responsive nature. Overall, what are customers looking to get out of their experience with Virtela?
• Outside of your core managed services base, Virtela is expanding its service portfolio with three new services: WAN acceleration, Software as a Service (SaaS) and remote storage. Are you seeing demand for those new services?
