SOFNET 08: New alliance targets business gateways

MSBG initiative looks to standardize SME access

A new initiative has been launched in an effort to reduce the growing number of boxes needed by SMEs (small to medium enterprises) to access the full range of telecom services.

The Multi-Service Business Gateway (MSBG) Alliance plans to unveil a reference design that can replace the numerous technologies with a single, more cost-effective platform.

According to LSI, one of the founders of the MSBG, the group consists of service, system and component providers which collectively plan to accelerate the launch of MSBG systems and make them available to telecom providers. By using MSBG-based solutions, service providers should be able to offer SMEs access to enterprise-grade managed service.

“Early on, LSI recognized the potential of the MSBG market, but also realized that a reference platform and solution delivery alliance were necessary for the market to flourish,” said Charlie Kawwas, VP of networking and storage products for LSI. "Through the combined efforts of the MSBG alliance members, service providers will now have the technology required to deliver new managed business services at a much faster pace."
