ECI takes charge of FTTH
Expands portfolio and secures two new customer wins
by Sean Buckley
Fresh with two new European carrier customer wins and a new FTTB product offering, ECI is bullish about the FTTH market opportunity. Ron Levin, Associate Vice President, Product Marketing for ECI Telecom, believes that FTTH growth is predicated on emerging applications, government mandates for FTTH, and municipalities using fiber as a community amenity.
In this Audiocast, Executive Editor Sean Buckley talks to Levin about the growing FTTH market, highlights of last week's FTTH Council Europe event, and the challenges of bringing fiber into MDUs (multi-dwelling units).
Levin answers the following questions:
• According to a recent study commissioned by the Fiber-to-the-Home
Council and the TIA, more than 2 million homes are now connected to
fiber in North America alone. What do you contribute that growth to and
what’s your take on the overall state of the FTTH market?
• As we all have returned from the FTTH Council Europe show, what were the
highlights for you last week?
• While targeting single-family homes with FTTH has enough of its own
challenges, going into an MDU is even more challenging because you
have to deal with existing wiring and older construction. Do you see
continued interest in service providers targeting the MDU environment,
and what are the real challenges of bringing FTTH to MDUs?
• Speaking of MDU deployments, ECI just released two new FTTB
products. Is the release of these new products a response to the
growing interest in MDU FTTH deployments?
