FTTH Europe: Emerson’s got the power
Increases focus on FTTH powering opportunities
by Sean Buckley
While network power is a necessary element of all telecom networks, including FTTH, it’s one of the dirty little secrets that gets lost in all of the noise of network technologies.
Emerson Network Power over the course of the past few years has increased its focus on network powering for FTTH applications. In the following Audiocast, Executive Editor Sean Buckley talks with David Michlovic, Director of Product Line Management, Emerson Network Power about the latest FTTH network powering trends.
In this Audiocast, Michlovic answers the following questions:
Although no one can debate the fact that bringing fiber to every home is
the ultimate broadband dream, it’s still an emerging concept. What’s your
take on the overall state of the FTTH market and how has it evolved?
Powering is obviously a big issue for FTTH/FTTP networks. Since 2006,
Emerson Network Power has continued to step up its efforts in this area.
Do you see an evolution in how service providers are powering their
FTTH/FTTP networks?
As service providers scale up their respective FTTX deployments, are
there specific pain points they are asking Emerson Network Power to
solve?
Can you talk a little about your approach to FTTH network powering?
While the initial and obvious drive for North American service providers
going with FTTH was to target the low-hanging aerial fiber fruit, it’s clear
they have now targeted their focus on bringing FTTP into MDUs. From a
powering perspective, what are the main challenges in operating in such
an environment?
