Tekelec empowers service providers with visibility
Enables management of the hybrid IP/TDM network
by Sean Buckley
For all of the capabilities an all-out IP network will bring to the service provider and the end-user, today's reality is that the wireline and wireless networks are a collection of legacy and next-gen protocols. In the following Audiocast, Kim Bagaasen, Product Manager for Tekelec, talks about how it is enabling service providers to monitor the health of their respective hybrid network environments.
In this Audiocast, Kim Bagaasen answers the following questions:
For as much as the telecom industry trades love to play up the notion of
the all-IP network, the reality is that all service providers own and
operator a diverse set of networks, or what may be called a hybrid
network. To start, what are the main issues with running and maintaining
a hybrid network environment?
Although the hybrid network will be in place for some time to come, it’s
clear all service provider types — cellular operators, cable, CLECs and
traditional phone companies — are moving to IP. Is there a difference in
how each of these kinds of carriers are monitoring the health of their
respective networks?
Not only do service providers have to manage their own networks, but
also those of their interconnected partners. What are the challenges
service providers have in dealing with interconnected partners to
maintain uptime?
In order to prevent problems before they impact a customer, service
providers will have to take a proactive monitoring approach. What do
service providers require to obtain this goal?
Finally, to monitor network health, there’s no shortage of point
monitoring solutions on the market. Tekelec has developed its IAS
(Integrated Applications Solution). With so many options for monitoring
on the market, what’s different about this system and how does it help
the service provider?
